Our History

Wacoal was founded in Japan in 1949 by Koichi Tsukamoto. His goal was to bring beautiful intimate apparel that would offer a higher level of quality and innovation than was currently available in the market to women across the globe. By building teams of like-minded designers, researchers, merchants, and others he created a brand with global reach and countless loyal customers. In 1985, Wacoal launched its brand in America with the goal of using high-quality materials to create intimate apparel that was beautiful and comfortable too.

Wacoal Gives Back

As a company dedicated to helping women look and feel beautiful, Wacoal wanted to play an active role in supporting the fight against breast cancer. To accomplish this goal, we created a bra with an embroidered pink ribbon on the back band to remind women about the importance of breast health and named it Awareness.

In 2001, Wacoal launched Fit for the Cure®, an initiative offering complimentary bra fittings at more than 1200 store events across the United States and in Canada each year that raises money for the work that Susan G. Komen® is doing to fight breast cancer. Wacoal donates $2 for every woman who participates in a complimentary fitting and makes additional donations for bras and shapewear purchased at the event. To date, we have donated more than $4.7 million to Susan G. Komen. Every October, Wacoal also participates in Breast Cancer Awareness month with programs that raise additional funds for Susan G. Komen®.
